Partial Hospitalization Treatment Centers

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) represent the highest-intensity outpatient tier. Participants attend 20 to 30 hours of structured treatment each week — usually five or six days — covering therapy, medical monitoring, and psychiatric care. At the end of each day, you return to your own home or a sober-living residence.

About Partial Hospitalization

Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) occupy the top tier of outpatient care, packing a near-residential level of clinical intensity into a day-treatment format. PathfinderHSV lists PHP options across the Southeast where participants attend full-day programming and return home or to a sober-living residence each evening.

What a PHP Schedule Looks Like

Most PHP programs include:

  • 20 to 30 hours of clinical programming spread over five or six days
  • Ongoing medication management and medical check-ins
  • Extended group therapy blocks alongside individual counseling
  • Psychiatric assessments and integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders
  • A structured daily routine running from morning through mid-afternoon

PHP as a Transitional Level

PHP fills the space between residential care and intensive outpatient. It is frequently chosen when a patient needs more therapeutic structure than IOP can deliver but does not require overnight supervision. For many individuals leaving inpatient or residential programs, PHP provides a gradual adjustment to increased independence while still offering substantial daily support.

Ideal Candidates for PHP

PHP is well suited for people with moderate to severe substance use disorders who have access to safe, stable housing; individuals managing co-occurring psychiatric conditions that benefit from coordinated, daily clinical attention; and patients who have completed a higher level of care and are ready to begin practicing everyday independence under close professional guidance.
